Homes for Alzheimer's Patients and Those with Other Dementia-Related Illnesses
We are the pioneer in residential living for those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia-related illnesses. For more than a decade, Potomac Homes has made it possible for those with Alzheimer's disease to enjoy the benefits of full-time, professional care in a familiar home setting. As a single-family, independent residence in an established neighborhood within your community, Potomac offers a lifestyle which promotes dignity and sensitivity to enhance each resident's quality of life.

A Potomac Alzheimer's Home... the alternative to institutional care
People with Alzheimer's and other dementia-related illnesses benefit from familiar surroundings. Our Alzheimer's homes offer consistency of care in an intimate setting. Our homes for Alzheimer's patients offer a wonderful alternative to institutional care, fully licensed by the New Jersey State Department of Community Affairs. Each one of our homes has 15 private bedrooms and features the following services:

Staffing: Our residents enjoy the highest staff-to-resident ratio available, double that of our competitors, which results in employee longevity. Our long-term employees therefore have the opportunity to bond with their residents thereby getting to know them intimately, and insuring the best care possible.
Design: Designed based on cutting-edge research indicating that those with Alzheimer's thrive and remain more independent in a small, intimate environment. Potomac Homes are the most unique, residences available today, designed specifically for people with Alzheimer's disease. Read more below.
Social Stimulation: Research proves that elderly persons, who are stimulated socially, remain healthy longer. Conversely, elderly that are isolated experience more than their share of health related problems. Our Alzheimer's facilities provide outstanding social stimulation.
Value: Potomac Homes places an emphasis on offering the highest staffing, and because our homes are small, we can offer real value to our clients at one low rate. Unlike other Alzheimer's facilities, which have many add-ons to their "base" price, we have a fixed price. Our rates do not increase as the level of care becomes more comprehensive.
Meals: Three balanced meals plus snacks are prepared daily in our own country kitchen on site. All meals and snacks are home cooked rather than prepared in a cafeteria, our menu is designed by a registered dietician.
Security: Wandering alarm systems, secure fenced yards and state-of-the-art life safety equipment make our Alzheimer's homes safe and secure.
Cost Effective: We do all this at up to 40% less than other options.
Medication Management: Medications are managed to ensure proper dosage and accuracy of prescribing for maximum potential benefits.
Setting: Patios, porches, and landscaped grounds for residents to enjoy recreational activities, socialization, and visits with family.
Services: Housekeeping and laundry services are provided on a daily basis in all of our Alzheimer's facilities.
Scenery: All of our homes for Alzheime's patients is located in a beautiful Northern New Jersey or scenic Somerset and Mercer County location.

Stateof-the-Art Design in Alzheimer's Facilities
Our environment, activities and assistance focus on maintaining each resident's health, happiness and freedom of movement within a secure living environment. The design of our Alzheimer's facilities feature three indoor and one outdoor continuous loop walking paths. These less restrictive paths have been designed to accommodate those residents who exhibit wandering behavior typical of the disease. The artwork is carefully selected to allow the residents to identify with familiar scenes and images. In our Alzheimer's homes, all wall decorations are touchable, and all pictures have Plexiglass, rather than glass for safety. Furniture, quilts, and other tactile pieces have been selected to engage the resident in the décor and peace of the home. The colors are designed to contrast with the wall colors and are warm in nature. Our interiors also feature contrasting colors where the walls meet the floor.

Because residents in our Alzheimer's homes do not spend much time in their rooms, accessible public bathrooms are provided in the common areas. Research has demonstrated that most falls in homes for Alzheimer's patients occur within a resident's private bathroom, so our bathrooms have been designed to accommodate a caregiver to assist with bathing and toileting for maximum safety.
