Nursing Home
"People come to our nursing home with different kinds of losses. Our aim is to help them adjust to the changes and overcome obstacles that keep them from fully enjoying their lives." Arnie Idelson, CTRS, Therapeutic Recreation
Hamilton Park Health Center strives to provide a safe and secure pleasant, homelike environment, and surround its residents with people who genuinely care about their well-being, special needs and preferences. For example, the nutritional staff provides residents with the choice of seven healthy entrees for noon and evening meals.
We have three floors of restful semi-private rooms. Each well-appointed room is decorated in floral paper and wood furnishings, with a window, electric beds, armoires and nightstands. Satellite television service is provided. Residents share a sitting-room balcony for taking in the fresh air and sunshine
Our home can be lively! A wide range of interesting activities are held in a large day room, and in a separate dining room. There are small pets on every floor, such as a finch, hamster and parakeet. Residents can feed and care for the animals.
Arnie Idelson, a certified music therapist, leads an exciting therapeutic recreation program with 11 other staff members. "We want to bring people 'meaningful leisure,' as well as encourage new interests," he says. Programs are specifically designed for different levels of cognition and physical abilities, and stimulate creative, intellectual, verbal and sensory awareness.
Therapeutic recreation events are offered seven days a week, in the morning, afternoon and evenings. Recent events have included:
A community outing to pick apples, and turn them into baked goods
Elegant Dining night, featuring a Polish food menu, flowers and balloons
Elvis Remembrance Night, with a special visit from "The King" himself
Country Music program
