"Gloucester County believes there is no greater honor than caring for those in society who cannot care for themselves independently."

- Stephen M. Sweeney, Gloucester
County Freeholder Director

Shady Lane Nursing Home has been part of Gloucester County's tradition since the 1800's. A special place where caring and quality long term care to its residents go hand-in-hand, Shady Lane opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art facility in the fall of 2005.

The new 60-bed nursing home features 10 private rooms and 25 double rooms, each with its own bathroom and shower, several activity areas, one main nurse station and one satellite station, a modern kitchen and dining area, an amphitheater and a walking trail.

Shady Lane Nursing Home offers its residents quality healthcare, therapeutic recreation, dining, social and housekeeping services, while offering family members the peace of mind that comes with knowing their loved ones are well cared for.

Gloucester County's Shady Lane Nursing Home has received the highest ranking Score Card of nursing homes by the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services in the county, aside from Underwood Memorial Hospital located in downtown Woodbury.

You are invited to tour our beautiful, modern facility and talk with our knowledgeable administration and staff anytime. Gloucester County believes there is no greater honor than caring for those in society who cannot care for themselves independently.

On September 6, 2005 Gloucester County opened the doors to the county's new Shady Lane Complex. The new 55,000 square foot building features both Shady Lane Nursing Home, a 60 bed facility, and the new state-of-the art Shady Lane Child Development Center.

The decision to build this new facility made it possible for Gloucester County to keep its commitment of providing quality care to the frailest of the communities' residents for over 100 years, and expanded its vision to include 'bridging the generations' by adding a modern child care facility to the new complex.

The new facility stands adjacent to the original Shady Lane Nursing Home, a building that was originally purchased by the county as an Almshouse in the 1800's, and renovated several times to serve as the county's nursing home. The original building was severely deteriorating and the costs to bring the facility into modern medical times were cost prohibitive. Therefore, the Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Gloucester County Improvement Authority (GCIA) worked together to construct the new Nursing Home and added a Child Development Center.

The new 60-bed nursing home features 10 private rooms and 25 double rooms, each with its own bathroom and shower, several activity areas, one main nurse station and one satellite station, a modern kitchen and dining area, and an amphitheater and walking trail.

Aside from the area hospital, Shady Lane has the highest ranking Score Card of nursing homes by the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services in the county.

"Generations of families will pass through these doors and this modern facility will serve our elderly and our youngest residents by providing them with care and respect," said Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney about the new complex.

The Daycare has its own entrance and is equip with a nursery, kitchen, sick child room, four classrooms and a play ground. The new Child Care Development Center features certified teachers and a comprehensive curriculum and is open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. The day care is licensed by the state.
